Colonnade
Screw the Majestic Diner...Colonnade has the real "food that pleases" and it doesn't give you a natural high colonic after eating at the Majestic.
Even though both diners have been around since the mid '20's, they are two totally different breeds. One is inbred, the other highbrow. The Colonnade being the latter... is a gathering of the most unique people from all backgrounds. This is just a southern classic...period.
When I make my monthly visit here, it's pretty much the regular old standbys. Fried chicken livers to start off with, fried chicken as the main, sides of mac & cheese, collard greens, green bean casserole and stewed white corn.
The fried yardbird is definitely one of the tops in my book. A hefty portion that is crispy, well seasoned, juicy and tender inside. The grease factor is not an issue. The appetizer of fried chicken livers were just as good... for $5, they give you a plate full of the largest livers you have ever seen this side of Cheshire Bridge. This appetizer is a meal in itself.
The corned beef was pretty much a disaster. NO t that is was inedible, it was just plain ugly to look at. If I'm gonna put something in my mouth, it has to pleases visually. This pink slice of meat looked like it came from down the street at one of "those" establishments. The collard greens were a nice southern favorite and the white corn delish. Both were the standouts.
This place is the best value in Atlanta... food is consistent, inexpensive and tasty...always.
After you had your fill of some tasty grub go down the street for a happy ending or a Varsity F.O.
Thank you... Come again!
